Travel Awards for Sub-Saharan African Participation in the 2014 TDWG Conference, Jönköping, Sweden

Biodiversity Information Specialists from developing Sub-Saharan African countries are invited to apply for travel awards to participate in the 2014 Biodiversity Information Standards (TDWG) Annual Conference, to be held 27-31 October 2014 in Jönköping, Sweden.  The travel awards are made possible by joint funding from the JRS Biodiversity Foundation and the Belgian Development Cooperation Program of the Royal Museum for Central Africa.

The travel award will consist of airfare, lodging, conference registration and an allowance for meals and miscellaneous expenses.  If desired, awardees will be matched with TDWG members with similar interests who will accompany awardees to paper sessions and working group meetings and introduce them to other meeting participants.  Awardees will be expected to give a presentation on the biodiversity informatics work they are involved in during a session of the conference devoted to biodiversity informatics research in Africa.

An updated curriculum vitae describing your biodiversity informatics experience, and a statement describing how your participation in the TDWG conference would benefit your work in biodiversity informatics and will help TDWG meet its mission, which is:

  • Develop, adopt and promote standards and guidelines for the recording and exchange of data      about organisms
  • Promote the use of standards through the most appropriate and effective means and
  • Act as a forum for discussion through holding meetings and through publications.

For this Belgian grant only participants from the following countries are eligible: Benin, Burundi, Burkina Faso, Cameroun, Côte d’Ivoire, Democratic Republic of Congo, Ethiopia, Guinea, Kenya, Madagascar, Mali, Mozambique, Niger, Uganda, Rwanda, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
