The Global Environment Facility has approved for its fifth operational phase (GEF 5: 2010-2014) the project entitled "Sustainable Agriculture and Conservation of Critical Habitat for Biodiversity Integration and Effective Management Of Protected Areas in the South-West region of Cameroon for the next four (4) years aims to strengthen and expand the Protected Areas network and integrate biodiversity conservation into the Bakossi-Banyang-Mbo landscape.
The project will be implemented under the supervision of the UN-Environment (former UNEP) and in close collaboration with key government institutions, co-funders, civil society organizations, community-based organizations and the private sector. This project has benefited a co funding from GEF to the tune of US $ 1,716,895 and an overall co-financing to a total amount 6,122,840 US $ . This funding will help promote the conservation and integration of biodiversity in the Bakossi-Banyang-Mbo landscape and production through sustainable agricultural practices to improve livelihoods in the community and provide more commercial opportunities. This process will contribute to improved efficiency in the management of protected area systems, integration of biodiversity conservation in the various land-use options, including agriculture, mining, forestry, production and promote an integrated approach to the management at the level of the landscape, through the development and implementation of an interactive land use plan. This project will equally help to strengthen or develop a supportive policy in environment and knowledge creation for the implementation of the interactive land use plan and to manage changes in ecosystems that could result from immediate and ultimate causes. These objectives will be achieved through the following three components:
Component 1: Conservation of critical wildlife habitat through the creation or strengthening of Protected Areas of high conservation value; Component 2: Sustainable agricultural practices and promotion of "livelihoods of communities and conservation of biodiversity through an Integrated Environmental and Social Management Plan; Component 3: Knowledge management, monitoring and evaluation.
within the framework of the annual work plan and the budget for the year 2018, the Government of the Republic of Cameroon through the Ministry of Environment, Protection of Nature and Sustainable Development is recruiting qualified national experts for the realization of the following consultations:
- Consultation 1 : Administer Management and Effectiveness Tracking Tool (METT) in the BBML TOU;
- Consultation 2 : Conduct Perception Survey of Conservation Interventions in the BBML TOU;
- Consultation 3 : Land use and forest cover survey within the BBML Landscape;
- Consultation 4 : Mapping private sector investors and theirs activities in line with the mitigation of social impacts to the Protected Areas within the BBML Landscape;
- Consultation 5 : Identify local stakeholders whose activities impact the PA management within the BBML Landscape;
- Consultation 6 : Produce a participatory and micro-zoning maps relating to forest management within and outside Protected Areas within the BBML Landscape;
