Safou and Cameroonian cuisine: a surprising mix

Safou, from the safoutier tree, is a fruit that is very popular in Cameroon and in the Congo Basin. It is used as the main ingredient in several sweet and savory recipes, and easily adapts to all the tastes of its followers.

First of all, it is interesting to know that safou can be cooked in different ways and enjoyed simply with cassava or plantain. Indeed, safous must, above all, be washed and streaked. They can then be steamed in a pot, fried in oil until golden brown or prepared directly on the barbecue for tender cooking. These methods are simple and quick and do not require major preparations.

Jam lovers, this article is for you... Camerdish TV has developed a recipe for safou jam that is likely to make people happy. The ingredients needed are safou fruits, lemons, water and sugar. The preparation is easy and promises a surprising result for little effort.

Safou can also be stuffed for a colorful and delicious tasting. Stuffing can be made from vegetables of any kind mixed with meat, sausage or tuna depending on mood and preferences. All you have to do is remove the cores and the inner skin of the fruit, stuff them and put everything in the oven for good cooking.

Finally, and because the surprises offered by this fruit seem to be endless, safou can also be enjoyed as caviar. No need to imagine a complicated, endless preparation, requiring mysterious tools... In fact, mix the safou paste (made with the flesh of the fruit) in a pan with pieces of tomato, celery and onions and you're done!

A fruit less well known than pineapple, mango or banana, safou is nevertheless a champion of Cameroonian cuisine. All you have to do is recognize and master your potential to enrich your culinary knowledge and prepare diverse and delicious dishes.
