Leaflets from the UICN-Comifac-IRSCNB project, for the well-being of TNS populations through REDD and APA

As part of the implementation of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), the project to support the operationalization of the Network of Elected Officials and Elites of the Sangha Trinational (RET) contributes to the strengthening of the capacities of traditional and decentralized authorities on the challenges of climate change in and around the transboundary complex of the Sangha Trinational (TNS) and the importance of the conservation of its biodiversity. This Contribution is essentially highlighted through two main pillars: • REDD (Reduction of Emissions due to or resulting from Deforestation and Forest Degradation). • APA (Access to genetic resources and the fair and equitable sharing of benefits arising from their use).

Comifac-UICN-IRSCNB, for the well-being of local communities around the TNS

REDD and APA work around TNS for the reduction of poverty and the well-being of populations. In fact:

• REDD works to significantly reduce deforestation, directly improve the livelihoods of forest-dependent populations and, in the long term, secure forest carbon stocks.

• APA is a process aimed at alleviating poverty by ensuring food security, health, and cultural integrity. It is in this perspective that it values traditional know-how for the benefit of conservation.

COMIFAC-IUCN-IRSCNB, for the preservation of biodiversity The promotion of the preservation of biodiversity through REDD and ABS involves:

” Promoting a greener economy

- Ecotourism

- Forest - carbon emission

- Low greenhouse gas emissions

” A fairer market, governed by specific legislation

- Improvement of the terms of trade

- Standardization of NTFP prices

- Market structuring

Objectives of the COMIFAC-UICN-IRSCNB project

• Organization of the establishment of exchange and monitoring platforms attached to the TNS Network of Elected Officials and Elites (RET);

• Strengthening the capacities of community-based anti-poaching and wildlife management organizations;

• Facilitation of taking into account the interests of particularly the most vulnerable actors (indigenous peoples, women and young people) in TNS conservation strategies.
