Notice of recruitment of a monitoring-evaluation manager for the SUFACHAC project

The Global Environment Facility (GEF) has approved, on behalf of its fifth operational phase (GEF5:2010-2014), the project entitled: “Sustainable Agriculture and Conservation of Critical Habitat for the Integration of Biodiversity and the Effective Management of Protected Areas in South-West Cameroon - SUFACHAC”. This project lasting four (4) years aims to strengthen and extend the network of Protected Areas PA, and to integrate the conservation of biodiversity in the Bakossi-Banyang-Mbo landscape.

This project, which will be implemented under the supervision of UN-Environment (ex-UNEP) and in close collaboration with the main governmental institutions, co-financial partners, civil society organizations, community organizations and the private sector, benefits from a GEF grant of 1,716,895 US dollars and a total co-financing amount of 6,112,840 US dollars. This funding will help promote the conservation and integration of biodiversity into the production landscape of Bakossi-Banyang-Mbo through sustainable agricultural practices that improve community livelihoods and business opportunities.

This process will contribute to improving the effectiveness of the management of protected area systems, the integration of biodiversity conservation into the various land use options, including agriculture, mining, production forestry, and to promote an integrated approach to management at the landscape level, through the development and implementation of an interactive land use plan. This project will also contribute to strengthening or developing a favourable policy environment and to the creation of knowledge for the implementation of the interactive land use plan and to manage changes in ecosystems that could result from immediate and ultimate causes.

These objectives will be achieved through the following three components:

Component 1: conservation of critical wildlife habitat through the creation or strengthening of Protected Areas or areas of high conservation value;

Component 2: Sustainable agricultural practices and the promotion of “community livelihoods” and the conservation of biodiversity through an Integral Environmental and Social Management Plan;

Component 3: Knowledge Management, Monitoring and Evaluation
