Atlas of the mangroves of Cameroon 2017
The coast of Cameroon extends over a distance of more than 400 km (ONEQUIP, 2009) and represents nearly 1/5 of the entire coastline of the Congo Basin. Mangrove ecosystems occupy an area of approximately 270,000 ha. These mangroves are mainly grouped in three areas that are from north to south: the zone of the Rio Del Rey estuary, that of the Cameroon estuary and that of the mouth of the Nyong, Lokoundje and Ntem rivers. Despite their high biodiversity potential, their importance in coastal protection, and their economic importance, especially in terms of the supply of goods and services (service wood, wood fuel, non-wood forest products, fish, water, etc.), mangroves suffer from severe degradation.
