Yaoundé: experts work together to eradicate poaching in Central Africa
An emergency meeting of the Ministers of the Commission of Central African States (ECCAS) in charge of defense and security, external relations and wildlife protection was held in Yaoundé in Cameroon from 21 to 23 March 2013.
Organized by the ECCAS General Secretariat, in collaboration with the Central African Forests Commission (COMIFAC), the Central African Protected Areas Network (RAPAC) and the states concerned (Cameroon CAR and Chad), the meeting focused on the fight against poaching. At the end of the work, the participants formulated a Declaration on the Fight Against Poaching in Central Africa. Through this Declaration, the countries have in particular adopted an Extreme Emergency Plan to Combat Poaching (PEXULAB) in the northern zone of Cameroon, in the North and South-West of the CAR, in the south of Chad and in the forest zone, together with a road map for its implementation. They also proposed the inclusion of the fight against poaching on the agenda of the upcoming ECCAS Summit of Heads of State and Government.
