Ecosystem
Dense tropical rainforest ecosystem
This ecosystem covers the entire southern plateau except for the southern edge of the Adamaoua plateau (occupied by peri-forest savannas) to the southern border of the territory across the width (Guillaumet et al., 2009). It is the largest ecosystem because it covers almost half of the territory in area (47%). It is distributed on the IGN 1/200,000e maps of the Nkambe-Buea-Douala-Kribi-Moloundou-Batouri-Bertoua-Deng Deng Deng-Linte-Ndikinimeki-Mamfe-Nkambe polygon. The area is estimated at around 226,000 km2. However, it is in this ecosystem that the largest settlements and the largest exploitation of
natural resources are found, so the ecosystem is fragmented and the current forest area is smaller.
