The law governing organic production in Cameroon establishes a national legal framework designed to regulate, promote, and develop sustainable agriculture that respects the environment, human health, and biodiversity. It defines the principles, rules, and scope of organic production, covering plant, animal, aquaculture, beekeeping, non-timber forest products, and processed products, while excluding GMOs, fishing, and hunting. The law aims in particular to guarantee the quality and traceability of organic products, protect consumers against fraud, professionalize stakeholders in the sector, and promote research, innovation, and investment in the sector.

It establishes a mandatory system for the control, certification, and labeling of organic products, under state supervision, with strict legal protection of the term and logo “organic product.” Specific rules govern plant, animal, and aquaculture production and food processing, including a conversion period from conventional production. Finally, the law provides for promotion and incentive mechanisms, as well as a system of administrative and criminal penalties for non-compliance, in order to ensure the credibility, transparency, and sustainability of the organic sector in Cameroon.
