Conservation of forest biodiversity in Atlantic Central Africa: Is the network of protected areas adequate?

This article focuses on the conservation of forest biodiversity in three Central African countries: Cameroon, Gabon, Equatorial Guinea. It aims to study the management system of protected areas in the subregion. Indeed, the management of protected areas in these countries is only effective in a small number of sites and the involvement of stakeholders is very low. The lack of coordination between the various services responsible for protected areas and those responsible for issuing forest permits is not likely to improve the situation. However, the Equatorial Guinean system will be the closest to what would be desirable to put in place in terms of coverage of national ecosystems. To further attract funds from the international community for the protection of the environment, States would benefit from setting up clear conservation strategies while undertaking to bear the costs of management.
