Celebrating the International Day for Biodiversity 2012

The Celebration of the International Day for Biodiversity is an annual action carried out by Cameroon and all other Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity in order to raise public awareness on biodiversity issues, and encourage concrete conservation and protection actions. This year's theme focuses more on the specific richness of marine ecosystems.

Cameroon's marine and coastal ecosystems constitute the greatest biological diversity and are at the same time among the ecosystems most threatened by human activities. In order to encourage positive attitudes to reverse the trend of loss of marine species, Cameroon will focus on 23 May 2012 on the causes and consequences of the loss of biodiversity in marine ecosystems, and on ongoing corrective measures.
