CHM Cameroon website brochure
Biodiversity is a major challenge for humanity, in view of the initiatives of the international community for its sustainable management and conservation. After the signing of the Rio Convention on the Conservation of Biodiversity in 1992 and the ratification of this Convention in 1994, Cameroon has undertaken activities to implement the said Convention. However, having reliable and comprehensive information on biodiversity is the prerequisite for managing it effectively.
“Cameroon is an ecological scandal” it is often said. The wealth of its biological resources is immeasurable. Information on the biodiversity of Cameroon certainly exists, but is incomplete and concerns much more the flora. Wildlife and especially microflora are the poor parents when it comes to information on biodiversity in Cameroon. Moreover, this information exists sparsely among actors who sometimes are not willing to share it. Also, eminent people or structures sometimes have data in their drawers, the result of painstaking and expensive research, without knowing that it is valuable information on biodiversity!
Faced with such a deplorable situation to say the least, how can information on biodiversity in Cameroon be collected, made digestible for everyone and gathered in the ideal place for access by the general public? However, this ideal place has a real and legal existence; it is the Information Exchange Center of the Convention on Biological Diversity, better known by its English acronym CHM (Clearing House Mechanism), which has a portal on the global web, through the following URL: http://cm.chmcbd.net. This site was officially launched on 23 February 2012.
However, it must be noted that the CHM Cameroon website remains very little known to institutions and organizations that have information on biodiversity in Cameroon. The main objective of this brochure design and production project is to get these producers of information on biodiversity to confidently publish their information on this website.
